We will welcome a special guest for a talk session at KUMA LABO.
What is the new space for circus being created by Setouchi Circus Factory and Yamaichi Mokuzai, and what are its prospects?! We will welcome architect and stage designer Junpei Kizu, who has worked on the stage design and spatial composition for Satoshi Miyagi of SPAC and Keishi Nagatsuka of KAAT, and whose bold proposals have greatly shaken up directing, going beyond the realm of “art.” Together, drawing on Mr. Kizu’s past experiences and achievements, we will exchange views on the spaces we are about to create and how to make the most of and bring them to life!
■Profile of Mr. Kizu■
Junpei Kizu|Architect / Stage Designer|Representative of Landscape THEATRE Since 1994, he has collaborated with director Satoshi Miyagi, developing a distinctive practice of designing architecture and outdoor spaces as performance spaces, extending beyond conventional theatres. He has received high acclaim for works including SPAC’s Avignon Theatre Festival production of “Mahabharata” (2014) and “Antigone” in the Cour d’honneur of the Palais des Papes (2017). In recent years, he has designed opera stages throughout Europe. For Scottish Opera’s “The Great Wave” (2026), he was described by The Guardian and others as “visually stunning.” In 2023, he established Landscape THEATRE, a “theatre without a building.”
