At Setouchi Circus Factory, we plan and propose circus performances tailored to the venue, target audience, purpose, and budget, and deliver them by producing the entire show.

Workers

Carpentry as circus?! An ambitious work where Japanese craftspeople’s culture meets contemporary circus. Structures made of wood, without using a single nail, are assembled on stage; the performers climb, hang, and perform their skills.

Tokotoko in the Forest

An outdoor contemporary circus work performed in November 2021 at the Prefectural Tree Garden on Mount Yashima.

What is a stage that coexists with its environment? Beginning with this question, the work incorporates the natural environment—the changing “light” of daytime, sunset, and the starry sky—into its direction, while keeping electricity consumption to an absolute minimum. Spirits of nature called Tokotoko appear in the mountains and in the town.

Welcome to Circus at the Port!

A work performed on July 18, 2021, at Sunport Takamatsu.

A circus troupe arriving at the port brings a moment of celebration.

DADDHA

This theatre-format contemporary circus work takes Ryūnosuke Akutagawa’s story “The Spider’s Thread” as its entry point, expressing its central themes—sin and punishment, hell and paradise, and the single thread that connects lives—through the body and gravity of circus, circular movement, and more. Natural materials such as stone, wood, and paper meet circus.
(The “DADDA 2025 Yokohama version” has been completed once, and the “complete version” is scheduled for completion from 2027 onward)

01

Semi-Order Performance

Combining aerial arts, Cyr wheel, juggling, unicycling, balancing acts, stilts, and more, we create a story and world suited to the place and target audience.SCF produces the entire show and does not dispatch artists alone.

02

Experiential Programme

For children and families, professional artists safely and enjoyably teach the basics of aerial arts, juggling, slacklining, and more. We propose content suited to the participants’ age group.

03

Talks

Michiko Tanaka speaks on themes including the activities of SCF, the state of contemporary circus around the world, international cultural networks, social circus, and regional revitalization through culture.
